This page describes the email client configuration for julianbakker.net.

Automatic discovery

Automatic discovery of mail server configuration is supported for most email clients.

Use of SRV Records for Locating Email Submission/Access Services

First of all, the standardized discovery of email services through SRV records (as described in RFC 6186 is fully supported.

Autoconfig

In addition, the following non-standard discovery methods are supported.

• Mozilla
• Microsoft

Manual configuration

If your email client does not support any of the above forms of auto-configuration (e.g. Apple's mail clients), you must manually configure your email account.

IMAP

For IMAP, connect to mx1.thesoftwarecraft.com on port 993.

Submission (SMTP)

For submission, connect to mx1.thesoftwarecraft.com on port 465.

Encryption

All connections must use TLS from the start. Implicit TLS (a.k.a. STARTTLS) is not supported. See RFC 8314) for rationale and more details.
